Brief Introduction of The Institute of Food Industry Economics

The Institute of Food Industry Economics in Henan University of Technology is a newly established independent academic research institution in 2019.

The Institute of Food Industry Economics in Henan University of Technology is set up to keep pace with the times in line with the overall needs of national development and the requirements of the national economy and the people's livelihood to consciously strengthen the food industry economic research. Food is the most important thing for the people. Whether we can do a good job in the "the big article" of development of food industry economics  determines the activity source, operation line, power key and national security such as food , economic , social, and political security for a country or a region. In particular, the international situation will change abruptly, major epidemics will occur suddenly, the disaster and threat will  happen unexpectedly, and market risks will increase dramatically. It is extremely urgent and particularly important to stabilize the "basic market" of agriculture and build a solid "ballast stone" for food security.

The purpose of setting up The Institute of Food Industry Economics in Henan University of Technology is to thoroughly implement General Secretary Xi Jinping's important instructions, such as "Chinese people should put their rice bowls in their own hands and store their own food," and earnestly implement the food security strategy such as "ensuring basic self-sufficiency in food and absolute security of food", specifically implement the spirit of document No. 78 issued by the State Office (2017), and make every effort to promote China's development from a big food-producing country to a big country in food industry. The main functions of The Institute of Food Industry Economics in Henan University of Technology are as follows: first, investigation and policy consultation. It carries out in-depth investigation and research on the food industry economics and its related agricultural industrial economy, agricultural supply-side structural reform, high-quality sustainable development of agriculture, the development of food intensive processing industry, the industrialization of food, and the revitalization of rural areas and so on and provides decision-making reference and advice for the State Food and Material Reserve Bureau, Henan Provincial Party Committee and Provincial Government and other party and government departments. Second, academic exchanges and cooperation with foreign countries. The Institute of Food Industry Economics is equipped with one executive dean and one executive vice president, and consists of four related agencies: one office and three research offices—food industry research office, food economy research office and comprehensive research office. Among them, the office is responsible for external publicity, logistics, daily liaison, research arrangements and so on. The food industry research office is responsible for the research work on supply-side structural reform of food, food capacity construction and benefit compensation, high-quality sustainable development of food industry, development of food intensive processing industry, industrialization of food and so on. The food economy research office is mainly responsible for the research work on the principle of food economy, the strategy of food security, the optimization of the whole food industry chain, and the "three-chain coordination" of food. The comprehensive research office is responsible for the research work on the macro-management of food and agriculture, the integrated development of food and agricultural industries, the coupling and coordinated development of food and agricultural industries, the exertion of the role of agriculture, rural areas and rural people as the ballast stone and the implementation of the rural revitalization strategy.
